Frequently Asked Questions
What is Plastination?
Plastination is a technique used in anatomy to preserve bodies or
body parts. The water and fat are replaced by certain plastics,
yielding specimens that can be touched, do not smell or decay, and
even retain most microscopic properties of the original sample.
What are the advantages of using Plastinated
Anatomical models?
Plastinated Anatomical Models are useful for teaching, testing and
as review aids. Complex structures and dissection areas are readily
available for viewing. In addition, they are durable and can be
repeatedly handled without significant deterioration. This also
allows for fewer animals to be sacrificed each year in the name
of science.
What care instructions should I follow to
preserve my Sheet Plastinates?
Acrylic is much softer than glass and therefore can scratch. Also,
certain chemicals can damage the product. These chemicals will either
dull the finish or cause crazing and eventually crack the acrylic.
o Do not use paper towels when cleaning
(use a cotton cloth instead)
o Do not clean with ammonia based chemicals
such as, 409, Windex, solvents, paint thinner (use soap and water
only)
Exercise care when handling Sheet Plastinates.

o Dropping the Plastinated model could damage or cause the protective
layers to detach
